Brendan McDermott (CM Dip) PGA Head Professional

Brendan has been Kirkcaldy’s Head Golf Professional since 2016. He is a strong player, accomplished teacher and a consummate promoter of the game of golf. Brendan creates a welcoming atmosphere for family and friends to enjoy the game of golf. His well-defined curriculum for juniors of instruction, etiquette, and rules give his young students a firm footing in how to play and enjoy golf.

Brendan personally instructs the youngest juniors at the club because he enjoys the honour and responsibility of introducing young golfers to the game. His commitment to making golf a family experience is further displayed by his creation of Junior Fun Days and Junior Guest Days.

Brendan is a sought after golf instructor and club fitter. He prides himself in keeping up with the latest developments in golf equipment and also continually looks for better ways to communicate and teach his students with the use of digital video and computer technology.

Brendan served as first assistant at Lavender Park Golf Complex, Swinley Road , Ascot from 1997 to 2000 and Mount Juliet from 2000 to 2003. He has a Club Managers Diploma and is a qualified assessor for the PGA in Equipment Technology and Custom Fit.

Brendan turned pro in 1996.

He finished his training with David Johnson who was head of training in the PGA and was Head of Commercial Studies for training and worked along side Alistair Barr who at that time was Head Swing Tutor for the PGA and co-authored the PGA Training Manual for the golf swing.

While working in Lavender Park he worked on the Mizuno tour truck for the PGA Championship at Wentworth during the 1999 event

During that time he also worked at the Ping factory in Gainsborough, Pings HQ for Europe, and achieved Pings sales person of the year for the South of England

Worked at Mount Juliet and was part of the team that brought the World Golf Championship to the resort for 2 years

Played for 5 year on the Irish PGA Region and Europro Tour –

  • Achieved a score of 59 around Greencastle Golf Club
  • Secured playing privileges for the Europro Tour in 2005 and 2008
  • Winner of the Kilkee Castle Pro Am 2008
  • Winner of the Beech Park Pro Am with a winning score and course record of 4 under Par (2008)
  • Winner of the South East Alliance Order of Merit 2009/2010
  • Participated in final qualifying at Glasgow Gailes for The Open Championship in 2009 for Turnberry
  • Winner of the Clontarf Pro Am 2010
  • Winner of the Ulster Championship Pro Am at Lough Erin Resort 2010
  • Winner of Bunclody Sprint 2011 ( Pro Event Only, 125 pros in field)
  • 16th on the 2010 and 27th on the 2011 Race to Mount Juliet Order of Merit

Worked as a golf writer for the local papers, The Kilkenny People and The Kilkenny Voice, and appeared on the local radio as a golf correspondent on the sports program.

PGA Assessor for Equipment Technology and Custom Fitting This means that all second and third trainee PGA professionals get examined by either Brendan or  three other PGA Professionals in their second and third year exams.

24 years experience in custom fitting and was involved with the development of 3D coaching technology.

Coached by Michael Bannon from 2005 to 2012. Michael is coach to Rory McIlroy.

Worked with Srixon and Cleveland as their main fitter for whole of Ireland.
