Playing Regulations 

GENERAL 

 

  1. A reasonable standard of dress is required at all times.  Players are requested not to wear football or sleeveless shirts, jogging or tracksuit attire, shorts, other than tailored shorts, or denim jeans.  

 

  1. Dogs are permitted on the golf course during leisure golf. They must be kept on a lead, and the owners are responsible for cleaning up.  

 

  1. Slow play annoys everyone.  Players should try to keep up with the match or group in front of them. If a gap of more than one clear hole develops, the match or game behind should be allowed to play through.     

 

  1. Priority to play off the first tee shall be granted to: -  

 

  • Players taking part in a Competition or Match organised by the Club, excluding ties in Club Knockout Competitions.  
  • Players taking part in a Competition or Match for which the Management Committee have granted permission.  
  • Juvenile and Junior Boy and Girl Members have priority times set aside for official club competitions. These times can be found on the junior fixture list.  
  • Visiting clubs or parties who have received the Management Committee’s permission to play and for whom the tee has been reserved. These times can be seen on the Club booking system.  

 

  1. Only two ball games shall be allowed in the 20 minutes immediately prior to the starting times for any Stroke Competition for which the first tee is reserved.  

 

  1. No person shall play from the first tee during the period of 16 minutes immediately prior to the starting times for any Competition or Match or prior to the times for which the first tee is reserved.  

 

  1. Play shall be regulated by the clubs computerised booking system. Players must book a tee time - which can be done up to 7 days in advance online - via the Club App – and include all guests playing with them.  

 

  1. Members may book a tee-time up to 14 days in advance for a club matchplay tie – this must be booked via the Club.  

 

  1. All players should report to the Starter on arrival.  

COMPETITIONS  

 

  1. Only full (voting) members and others with the Match Committee’s permission shall be allowed to play in club competitions.  

 

  1. Juvenile and junior members who have achieved a handicap of 15 or less can play in a Wednesday sweep, however they must be accompanied by two full members who are also playing in the sweep. They will also be eligible to play in selected men’s Team competitions.  

 

  • All juniors play for handicap purposes only and cannot be placed in any of these events, nor enter any sweeps on the day.  

  • If the Ladies’ committee feels a junior or juvenile girl member has reached a suitable level of ability, they will be allowed to play in Ladies competitions; however, two adult members must accompany them.  

  • We would request that mums and dads do not follow juniors around the course when they are playing in adult club competitions.  

 

  1. Competition entry will open in the App, prior to the event.  

 

  • Drawn competitions will open 7 days in advance. Players shall enter their names into the desired time zone.  

  • Wednesday Sweeps and other walk-up events will open on the day for members to enter and create a scorecard for their previously booked tee time.  

  • Open Competitions will be available to book further in advance.  

 

  1. The Match Committee will decide on the start of play times for competitions organised by them.  No play shall take place outside these times.   

  • Men’s competition draws normally commence on Saturday mornings from either 7:00 am or 7.15 am, depending on the time of year. The late morning / afternoon draws commence at 11.30 am.   

  • For Ladies’ competitions the tee will be reserved as required on Tuesdays between 9.00 am to 10.15 am, 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm and 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm but play is also permitted outside these times. The tee will also be reserved for Saturday or Sunday alternate days as required by the players.  

 

  1. There will be a number of mixed competitions throughout the year where Men, Ladies and Juniors will have the opportunity to play together in competitions.  

 

  1. Players in Stroke Competitions for which a draw has been made shall play in threes.  If there are an unequal number of players the first or last one or two games shall play in twos.  

  • Ladies, with their smaller fields, are permitted to play in two-balls if they so wish.  

 

  1. Players are not automatically allowed to change their tee off times in a Stroke Competition once the draw has been posted. If for some reason a player requests to change their time, they may be allowed to, providing there are vacant positions available. To change their tee time a player should contact the Professional Shop on 01592 205240 or email match@kirkcaldygolfclub.co.uk .  

 

  1. Players who wish to call off from a Stroke Competition must do so at the earliest opportunity by calling the Professional Shop on 01592 205240 or email match@kirkcaldygolfclub.co.uk   

 

  1. The player must start at the time established by the Committee   

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE:   

  • If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes at the first hole in stroke play. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification.  

  • Exception: Where the Committee determines that exceptional circumstances have prevented a player from starting on time, there is no penalty.   

 

  1. Players who consistently fail to turn up at the first tee for a Stroke Competition at the time shown on the Draw, without calling off to the Professional or without a reasonable explanation, may be excluded from the next Competition entered.  

 

  1. Late entries will be accepted for Stroke Competitions if there is a vacant position available. Late entries are eligible to win the days competition. To obtain a late entry players should contact the Professional Shop on 01592 205240.  

 

  1. The maximum handicap allowance to be given in any Men’s Stroke Competition of 18 holes shall be 28 and in matchplay competitions 28. The Ladies maximum handicap allowance shall be 36 for both stroke play and matchplay competitions.  

 

  1. There are certain designated competitions such as opens and team events where there are restrictions on handicap. These restrictions will be highlighted at the time of entry.  

 

  1. In all Strokeplay competitions players must enter their scores on the App scorecard, or maintain a manual scorecard and record their score on the Terminal in the Clubhouse  

 

  1. All One-Day Stroke Competitions organised by the club shall be completed on the day of the event unless the competition has been properly suspended.  

 

  1. If the Match Committee considers that, for any reason, the course is not in a playable condition or that there are circumstances which render the proper playing of the game impossible, it shall have the power in match and stroke play to order a temporary suspension of play or, in stroke play, to declare a competition null and void and to cancel all scores for the round in question.    

 

  • When a round is cancelled, all penalties in that round are cancelled.  When play is temporarily suspended, it shall be resumed from where it was discontinued even though resumption occurs on a subsequent day. Match Committee will inform players.  

  • In the event of inclement weather and a Ladies competition is cancelled or abandoned, the Match committee will attempt to reschedule the competition.   

 

  1. In all Club and Open Competitions, the positioning of Tee Blocks and the Holes will be responsibility of the Match Committee.  

 

 

HANDICAPS  

 

  1. All Handicaps will be administered by the Match Committee.  

 

  1. To obtain a handicap, a member should play 54 holes in general play. This can be in rounds of 18 or 9 holes and must be submitted through the Club App.  

 

 

MATCHPLAY COMPETITIONS  

 

  1. It is the responsibility of all parties to organise ties in matchplay competitions in a timely fashion to enable completion by the dates stated on the draw sheet.   

 

  1. No extensions will be permitted under any circumstances. If no result is declared by the date stated on the draw sheet then the parties who have not declared a result will be removed from the competition.  

 

  1. The player must start at the time established by the Committee   

 

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE  

  • If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is loss of the first hole in match play. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification.   

  • Exception: Where the Committee determines that exceptional circumstances have prevented a player from starting on time, there is no penalty.  

 

  1. Strokes in matchplay competitions are as follows -   

  • In singles, full difference between respective handicap allowances.  

  • In foursomes, ½ of the difference between the aggregate handicap allowance on each side. A half stroke shall count as 1. All strokes given shall be in accordance with the stroke indexes of the course.  

 

  1. In mixed foursome two ball matches, ladies shall drive at the odd numbered holes.
